Brian Sara was a fervent supporter of the East Coast Challenge Cup.
He served as President of Tenpin Australia from 1981 to 1990, and as a Team Manager for a period of 31 years with his final year being 2014.

The trophy has been donated by Achievement Trophies as a tribute to the many years that Brian supported the East Coast Challenge Cup, and a request that it be applied to the adult and senior division bowlers in the East Coast Challenge Cup.
​The criteria is " the most improved average from the East Coast Challenge Cup games.
